I suppose every notebook needs a first page.
If you’re reading this, you’ve stepped into what is, in many ways, my working journal. Not a formal announcement board. Not a polished column. Just the place where thoughts gather before they become stories.
I’ve always been drawn to the space between fact and memory. The branches of a family tree mapped across generations. A chart filled with names and dates, but missing the stories in between. The photograph with no explanation written on the back. The question that lingers long after the research ends: who were they, really?
That question is at the center of everything I write.
Some days it leads me to Regency England and the tensions of duty, inheritance, and love that asks to be chosen. Other days it leads me to Louisiana, to Acadian exile and the women who endured more than history properly recorded.
I am also deeply committed to conversations around mental health. No matter the century, people carried burdens that were rarely named. Anxiety existed. Grief existed. Shame existed. Healing existed.
From time to time, I may write about those things here. I may share articles or reflections from my own journey. I do not know yet how much of that will live on this page. But I do know this: every character I write is shaped by the internal struggles I have wrestled with myself.
They carry fear. They wrestle with doubt. They choose faith. They grow stronger. They heal.
So do I.
And sometimes all of that leads me to the corner of my desk where a small miniature world has begun to take shape, a reminder that stories do not have to be large to be meaningful.
Beyond writing, I am also learning to create with my hands again. Miniature crafting. Drawing. Watercolor. Needlepoint. Small, intentional projects that slow me down and bring a sense of order and calm. From time to time, I will share those here as well. They are part of the same thread, the desire to live thoughtfully and to build beauty in ordinary moments.
This blog will hold all of it.
Research notes. Reflections. Questions I don’t yet have answers to. The interests that catch my attention. The ideas that stir my thoughts. The pieces of my personality that make their way onto the page.
I don’t know exactly what this space will become.
But I do know this: the stories we inherit shape the stories we tell.
Favorite this page and stop in regularly. This is where I’ll share the things that catch my attention, stir my thoughts, and make me who I am.
